Sketches from last night’s viewing of the 2007 BBC adaptation of Northanger Abbey.  Northanger Abbey, not one of Jane Austen’s more popular novels, is Austen’s humorous send-up of a gothic novel—complete with spooky manor and festering secrets—delivered through the lens of the young protagonist who reads far too many “unsuitable” novels and is a bit silly.
Usually I adore BBC adaptations but since this was a film not a miniseries the pacing felt breakneck (relative, you know, to most BBC miniseries) and it entirely missed out on the nice bits of character development and mannerisms that Austen excels at.  On the bright side, it had an endearing parade of hats and ascots.

Here are some sketches from my viewing of “The Golden Bowl”, a lavishly produced mistake from Merchant Ivory featuring an unconvincing Uma Thurman, Jeremy Northam with a terrible Italian accent and Nick Nolte slumming.  Oh, and Kate Beckinsale but no one cares.

Luckily the costume and sets were excellent which at the end of the day is all I ask for from my costume drama indulgences.

Three stars for great period lamps.

My SPX haul! I had a few of my nearest and dearest sign my brick and it now lives on the living room mantle next to the Godzilla figurines.

This is the cover for a new comic of mine, coming out THIS SATURDAY in the new Dog City 3 anthology.  This is actually just the separations for a silk-screened cover that I will not be seeing in person until the release party—the boys of Dog City silk-screen and bind all the comics themselves (hallelujah!).
For more info on the anthology and details about the release party happening this Saturday, September 6th at Copacetic Comics in Pittsburgh, PA, check out their website: dogcitypress.com
Also featured at the release party with be Maple Key 3, an anthology put together by CCS grad and classmate Joyana McDiarmid which I also have comics in.  More on THAT anthology here: maplekeycomics.com
